Manitoba Wheat and Barley Growers Association Bursary

2019-2020 School Year

Deadline to apply: January 10th, 2020

The Manitoba Wheat and Barley Growers Association (MWBGA) supports students who are in post-secondary education programs, studying to support the agriculture industry. The MWBGA has established a bursary intended to assist with the financial needs of students who are enrolled in a post-secondary agricultural program within the Province of Manitoba.

The Manitoba Wheat and Barley Growers Association is a non-profit organization that was established in 2013. The MWBGA represents over 7,000 farmer-members who share the common goal of growing the potential of wheat and barley as profitable and sustainable production choices for Manitoba growers through leadership and strategic investments in research, market development and communications. Through the establishment of this bursary, the MWBGA intends to encourage and support students studying to assist with the important work being done within the agriculture industry.

Bursaries valued at $1,000 each are available and will be awarded to three (3) students who:

  • have completed their first or second year of post-secondary education at the college or university level (Diploma or Degree) and are enrolled, full-time for the 2019/2020 school year in an agricultural program within the Province of Manitoba;
  • have achieved a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0;
  • have an interest in wheat and/or barley crops, or agriculture in general, as demonstrated in a brief, one-page letter;
  • are from a farm that is a member in good-standing of the Manitoba Wheat and Barley Growers Association (you can inquire about this at info@mbwheatandbarley.ca).

Letters should be a maximum of 500 words and the applicant should include information on the following: (i) their connection to agriculture, (ii) why they decided to enroll in an agriculture-related post-secondary program, and (ii) how they will benefit the agriculture industry once they have graduated and are in the workforce.

The applicants selected for this award will be featured in the MWBGA newsletters, The Manitoba Kernel and Heads Up (e-newsletter) next spring.
